The weather is now playing along: the start of the season for the Farchanter swimming pool is imminent

The Ukraine war is noticeable.

Prices are rising in many areas.

Especially with the gas.

This also applies to the Farchanter municipality and its swimming pool.

But now it's unlocked.

Farchant - Christian Hornsteiner (CSU) had recently spoken of a signal effect in the municipal council when he had advised to use gas when heating the water in the Farchanter warm outdoor pool - and therefore possibly wait until May 28th with the opening.

"We don't want to reduce the quality of the swimming pool, but we want to save energy," explained the mayor of Farchant.

But now things are getting started earlier: the start of the season in the outdoor pool is planned for Saturday, May 21st.

The nice weather of the past week makes it possible.

The savings potential is actually greatest when the weather is sunny.

Then the water for the large pools can be heated for the first time by the solar absorber system.

When the sky is gray and overcast, when it rains a lot, the community has to switch to gas to heat the water.

As is well known, the Ukraine war led to great difficulties on the energy market.

"Everything is getting more expensive," emphasized the mayor.

The task now is to find a solution in view of the gas shortage and the prices.

If the solar system runs optimally, 50 percent of the annual gas consumption could be saved, Hornsteiner calculated.

The weather has been good at the moment.

Hence the early opening on May 21st.

At 9:30 a.m., the municipality unlocks the pool.

However, filling the pool once is not enough.

Another way of reducing energy consumption is to lower the water temperature in the swimmers' and diving pools by one or two degrees.

The non-swimmer pool, on the other hand, should always be around 23 degrees.

Contract this year still with a fixed gas price

Josef Berndaner also came especially to the municipal council meeting.

The operations manager in the warm outdoor pool didn't think much of a rigid opening date.

His opinion: The visitor would certainly understand if it was opened later.

In summer it is no longer a problem to keep the water at 22 degrees, the solar energy is sufficient for that.

"Not until the end of August again," says Berndaner from experience.

But now he is also happy that the solar system was able to preheat enough.

Saving energy "is the order of the day," stated Gerhard Portele (Free Voters).

22 degrees are acceptable in the initial phase.

However, he pointed out that Farchant has a warm outdoor pool, so the temperature shouldn't be reduced too much.

Marianne Böhmer (Free Voters) thought that visitors had to be offered something in exchange for paying, and therefore, if necessary, heated with gas.

Nobody can say how things will continue in the energy sector.

Hornsteiner reported that there is still a contract in Farchant for 2022 with a fixed gas price.

However, the mayor has already warned: "In the following years we will no longer achieve this price."
