This morning (Sunday), the Ministerial Committee for Legislation approved six private members' bills from the opposition, including four proposals by members of the Likud and two proposals by members of Torah Judaism.

This is an unprecedented number in the 24th Knesset, where the rivalry between the opposition and the coalition has reached new heights.

For the most part, the committee did not approve the opposition proposals, and their initiators would put them to a vote in a preliminary reading in the plenum, and the coalition would vote against them.

Now that the Ministerial Committee for Legislation has approved the proposals, it means that the coalition supports them, and they are expected to pass the Knesset approval, at least in the early stages of legislation.

Behind the move there is a desire of the coalition to avoid "unnecessary friction" in the plenum, but at the same time achieve silence from the opposition and even support from its members for bills that have no interest in principle to oppose.

Thus, senior coalition officials believe, they will be able to finish the next session, even though at the base the coalition does not have a majority.
