Stands on the lower market, shops that are open, a family program and other activities right into the city park - the people of Dorfen experienced a wonderfully sunny market Sunday.

Dorfen

– Lots of hustle and bustle on Sunday at the grass market in Dorfen: on the one hand, many shops in the city center were open, on the other hand, there were many stalls on the lower market with culinary specialties from the region.

Street vendors offered stone and silver jewelry or clothes and handbags for sale.

At the same time, May 15 was International Family Day.

And so the new community youth worker, Sigrid Wiedenhofer, got involved in what was happening at the market right away.

Together with Kristina Schmitz, the director of the Dorfen family base, she offered a varied program for families and children.

"There's finally something going on in Dorfen," Schmitz said happily.

“And then the sunshine – wonderful.” For the Dorfen educator and nature educator, it is important to finally be able to talk to parents again.

And of course the girls and boys should have a lot of fun on such a day.

For example, with handicraft offers or a sensory course on Marienplatz.

The villagers Tom and Kathrin Becker had read about the grass market and the family offer in the newspaper.

"The last few years have been difficult - finally something is working again," said the mother.

She carried baby Lilli in a sling.

Lukas (6) and Luisa (4) immediately pounced on the smell memory, held the bottles under each other's noses, while the adults chatted.

"It's just good," was the conclusion of the parents.

The youth care team led by Kristina Schmitz (bottom picture, 2nd from left) lured visitors to their stands with creative games.

100 meters away, in the city park, people could play boules or chess and find out about plans for the redesign of the park.

Beate and Dieter Waltl, who visited the grass market together with their grandchildren, relaxed in the shade of the trees - just like in the years before the pandemic, when carefree family trips were still possible.

The grandparents were full of joy about the hustle and bustle.

The nine-year-old Bastian-Leon was particularly fascinated by the snow plow simulator that the State Building Authority had set up on Kirchtorplatz.

He said, very excited: "I climbed into the cockpit and put on the VR glasses." The little one toured the landscape for five minutes in ice and snow.

"I was pretty good," said the young Dorfener.

Lina Frank supervised the virtual winter service campaign - the 20-year-old is the only road supervisor in Upper Bavaria.

"I can also do a bit of advertising for the women's quota - it's a dream job, not just for men," said the young woman from Lendorf.

Meanwhile, friends Pia Huber and Johanne Bauer, both 22 years old, met in front of the Gruber clothing store: "It's great that it's open today," said the nurses.

During the week, they hardly have time to go shopping outside of work.

"I urgently need clothes for the summer - it's a pity that such shopping Sundays don't take place regularly."
