With the participation of 15 journalists from various media outlets, an academic media workshop entitled “Advanced Steps in Solutions Journalism” started today at the Center for Continuous Learning and Training in Damascus.

The three-day workshop includes presentation of samples of media materials that explain the mechanism of applying this type of journalist and the appropriate topics and highlights the academic methodology adopted by adopting the method of journalistic research for solutions and answering various questions, including how the journalist addresses the social problem and when the journalist can determine the nature of the problem and who puts A solution to it, as well as the method of the solution and the target segment for its implementation.

In a statement to SANA, the Deputy Minister of Information, Ahmed Dawa, confirmed that the Syrian media has proven its worth despite the weak capabilities compared to regional and international media institutions, pointing out that the Syrian journalist possesses creativity, ability and knowledge, and the purpose of these workshops is to enhance that.

Dhawa pointed out that solutions journalism is not new to the Syrian media, but today work is being done to strengthen its presence, stressing the importance of following up on all that is new in the media, especially in light of the current reality.

The coordinator of the workshop, Hussein Al-Ibrahim, indicated that it is a translation of the memorandum of understanding signed between the Ministry of Information and the Virtual University last October and aims to promote press initiatives and hone skills in this field to support media influence and its positive role in social development.

Ibrahim pointed out that this is the second workshop and was preceded by dialogue sessions last April, in which a number of journalists participated, which dealt with a set of ideas about solutions journalism and ways to deal with media materials in a professional manner that presents a partial or complete solution.

In turn, the managing editor of Tishreen newspaper, Dr. Yousra Al-Masry, pointed out that the workshop is looking for a new way to deal with societal issues and presents a new role for the media to take the initiative to find solutions to these issues through its work with all parties and people affected by them.

During the first day of the workshop, six media projects were presented, where social issues and a set of societal and governmental solutions were presented to them through presentations that were discussed by the audience and members of the jury formed to evaluate

projects.
