Today: Prisoner Rehabilitation Day is celebrated for the first time • Among the events that will take place in the Knesset: a food fair led by Haim Cohen and Tomer Thomas, with patients of the Prisoner Rehabilitation Authority •

Prisoner Rehabilitation Day takes place today (Tuesday), for the first time in Israel.

Today will be marked in the Knesset at the initiative of MK Michal Shir Segman, during which discussions will be held in the various committees and a special plenary session will be held in the presence of the Minister of Welfare.

The special day in the Knesset will be accompanied by a happening food track in the nearby Rose Garden, conducted by Chef Haim Cohen and Tomer Thomas.

At the event, patients of the Prisoner Rehabilitation Authority (RASA) will cook the food served at the "Tomer Thomas in Pita" restaurant, and it will be distributed free of charge to the audience that arrives. Towards the end of the day, we spoke with Tomer Thomas, who is also rehabilitating

Successful restaurateur Tomer Fitoussi, known as Tomer Thomas, says he has seen it all in his life.

"I had apartments, cars and businesses, but because of wrong decisions I lost everything," he says.

"Do everything for them"

At this point Tomer despaired, stopped working and tried to get out of the crisis even in illegal ways.

This road also included an attempt to trade in marijuana, which ended in a year in prison, from which Thomas was able to recover.

"I was in the lowest place and already wanted to die. I also tried to get out of this place by marijuana trafficking, and for that I was caught and tried. At the same time, when I lost everything, I actually succeeded very well on Instagram as a network influencer. I had time and uploaded recipes. I already had half a million followers. They took this success in Rasha, turned me into a cook in prison and also funded me for higher education as a senior chef.

"It lifted me up. I was wrong for a moment because of a difficult situation, but I came back to myself. The number of followers has increased and now I have restaurants, delicacies and a chain of food products. I did all this when the authority encouraged me and brought me back to the world without me falling again," he concludes.

Prisoner Rehabilitation Day is the main event of "Believers in Second Chance", a social campaign led by students from the School of Communication at Ariel University for Rasha.

MK Michal Shir Segman said: "Our interest as a state is to do everything to rehabilitate and give a second chance to released prisoners, and in particular to prisoners who are parents of children.

Only in this way can we give their children a chance for a different and better future. "

Retired Rasha CEO Aryeh Bibi: "Our experience shows that a successful rehabilitation process reduces the chances of returning to prison by tens of percent. Rehabilitation of prisoners is in the socio-economic interest of society as a whole, and not just of the prisoner himself."
