According to the story of the prosecutor, Laurent de Caigny, the five men, members of the Traveler community, fled by car "
at the sight of the gendarmes
" after being surprised in the middle of the night in a municipal stadium in the town. of Ayvelles.

” said the prosecutor, but they lost sight of him after he turned off.

One of the passengers, aged "
15 and a half
", died on the spot.
Two others were injured.
The father of the deceased teenager was present in the vehicle.
The driver is also “
related to the deceased
”.
He is known for acts of petty crime.
His son was among the passengers.
All four were taken to hospital before being taken into custody.
The investigation was entrusted to the research brigade of the gendarmerie company of Rethel, different from the company where the gendarmes concerned work, underlined the prosecutor.
