BRUSSELS - "We will do our best to unblock the situation, but I cannot guarantee that an agreement will be reached because the positions are strong enough: my role is not to assign blame to someone but to build consensus".
This was stated by the High Representative for EU foreign policy Josep Borrell answering a question on the oil embargo in the new EU sanctions package.
The approval of new sanctions against Moscow "will be one of the things we will be remembered for: an EU capable of moving forward and sending a clear message to Russia, or a blocked EU. And now the entire European Union is hostage. unfortunately, a country that does not help us find consensus ".
This was stated by the Lithuanian Foreign Minister, Gabrielius Landsbergis, entering the Foreign Affairs Council which will discuss the sixth package of sanctions which should include a gradual embargo on oil, a proposal that meets with strong opposition from Hungary.
