Chinese scientists develop multivalent vaccine to protect against Covid-19 mutant

BEIJING, SANA- Chinese scientists today developed a candidate vaccine for multivalent nanoparticles for COVID-19 that can protect against

Today, Chinese scientists have developed a candidate vaccine with polyvalent nanoparticles for COVID-19 that can protect against infection with COVID-19 mutant.

Xinhua reported that scientists from China's Sun Yat-Sen University, the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University and the Guangdong Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention designed the quadrivalent nanovaccine that includes spike proteins from the SARS-CoV2 prototype and three main mutant. They are alpha, beta and gamma.

The study showed that the nanoparticles produced equivalent or superior antibodies that neutralize the mutated strains in mice and non-human primates with only a slight decrease in the neutralization titer against the main strain.

The study indicated that the scientists tested the vaccine against the Omicron and lambda mutant, where the two mutant slightly reduced the neutralizing ability of the vaccine-stimulated sera, indicating that vaccine-induced sera can elicit protective antibody responses on a large scale to the circulating variants.

The study concluded that the results provide a proof-of-concept for the development of multivalent pandemic vaccines and potential variants of SARS-CoV-2.
