The German newspaper Der Spiegel has warned that the embargo on Russian oil threatens eastern Germany with economic consequences.
In today's article by writer Sabina Renefants, the newspaper stated: "The future of the East German economically, socially and politically is decided in Schudt, where there is an oil refinery that receives raw materials exclusively from Russia through the Druzhba pipeline, which is at risk due to plans to impose an oil embargo."
She noted that nine out of ten cars in Berlin and Brandenburg run on gasoline and diesel fuel from the Schwidt plant, which also supplies fuel to the domestic airport.
