Eleven people were killed and 34 injured when a passenger bus fell into a ravine in Peru.
"A passenger bus heading to Lima from the northern region of La Libertad on the Taiabamba highway fell on Saturday evening for a distance of 100 meters in a valley in the Ancash region, killing 11 people and wounding 34 others," the Peruvian civil defense agency said in a statement. He indicated that civil defense personnel and residents worked until late hours to retrieve the bodies and transport the injured to nearby hospitals.
In turn, the authorities said that they had "opened an investigation to uncover and find out the circumstances of the accident."
Last February, 20 people were killed in a bus accident in a ravine in Tayabamba.
It is noteworthy that traffic accidents in Peru are many, most of them as a result of excessive speed, poor road conditions, the absence of traffic signals and the laxity of the authorities in implementing laws.
