Despite the pandemic, the Langengeisling volunteer fire department set a record.

The military has never had as many active members as it does today.

Langengeisling

– Commander Jürgen Mesz was happy at the annual general meeting: “We have never had as many active people as we have today.” 53 firefighters are there, plus 24 young people.

The number of junior staff rose particularly sharply, with an advertising campaign “a whole bunch” came along, as Mesz emphasized with a beaming smile.

However, the high number of active members brings with it a particular problem: Because the Langengeisling fire brigade only has two vehicles, not everyone can take part in the missions: “Anyone who has to drive a little further to the fire station often has no chance, especially on the Weekends or evenings,” says the commander.

He therefore asked Mayor Max Gotz, who was present, that the fire brigade might soon get another vehicle.

Because the current equipment is not only a problem because of the lack of space: "We recently went out again after a traffic accident, and it was clear that we were very poorly positioned." However, despite possible funding, not on: "The new versions have two seats less, that wouldn't be ideal," explained Mesz.

There were 35 missions in total in 2021, most of which were technical assistance in the event of storm damage or traffic accidents.

There were six fires to put out.

Despite the pandemic, the number of exercises remained at a high level, with members doing 1,450 hours.

As a reward for this, a number of people from Langengeislingen were able to look forward to promotions (report follows).

According to Mesz, the dissolution of the air base could pose a new challenge in the future.

A large part lies within the district of Langengeisling, and inspections have already taken place.

Mayor Gotz said that this topic is also one of the greatest challenges of all time for the city of Erding: "But as long as the area is not transferred to us, the fire brigades of Erding are not responsible for it either.

I communicated that to the Bundeswehr in no uncertain terms.”

Youth manager Ludwig Aigner spoke about the strong youth work: “We were almost overrun after the advertising campaign.

After two tough years, it's now a lot of fun working with the boys and girls."

In contrast to active service, social life had to be cut back badly, as reported by club chairman Karl Patzelt.

Events for the 199 members were hardly possible: “We had planned a lot and had to cancel almost everything.

At the same time, socializing is immensely important in a fire service.” The flood of cancellations also had an impact on the checkout.

Treasurer Martin Zehetmair emphasized that the only source of income was the membership fees.

Therefore, there was a minus of 1937 euros in 2021: "But that will change again soon," he noted.

At the end of the annual general meeting, the honors were on the agenda: Hans Kurzder achieved half a century of membership in the association.

And Manfred Gaigl, Franz Sepp and Max Tauber have been there for 40 years.

By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Erding newsletter.
