France's Prime Minister Jean Castes has submitted his resignation to President Emmanuel Macron, the Office of the Government of France announced.
Reuters reported that Castes arrived at the Elysee Palace and handed his resignation to Macron, in a move that paves the way for a long-awaited reshuffle by Macron, who has said his new government team should be more focused.
According to sources within the French government, power will be transferred to the new prime minister later today.
Macron had announced earlier, after his election to a new presidential term, that he was looking for a person with political and social qualifications to fill the post of prime minister.
And there have been reports in recent days of several names nominated to succeed Castes, most of them women, including Labor Minister Elizabeth Bourne.
Macron appointed Castes as Prime Minister to succeed Edouard Philippe on July 3, 2020.
