A severe and extreme incident of violence took place this evening (Monday) at Hadassah Hospital on Mount Scopus.

The family members of a patient who was evacuated to the hospital in a critical condition, while undergoing resuscitation operations and the staff trying to save him, began to riot and rave upon receiving the news of his death.

Dozens of family members stormed into the intensive care unit and began raging and rioting, breaking the doors and windows in the unit, damaging the nurses' positions, computers and equipment, beating staff members and luckily no patient was injured.

With the takeover of the hospital security guards and with the assistance of the Israel Police, order was restored, but the entire staff remained shocked and agitated by the severe violence, and two staff members who were lightly injured are currently being treated in the emergency room.

At this time, the hospital director and the social service director are on site to carry out a support procedure and process the incident with the staff.

Dr. Tamar Elram, director of Hadassah Mount Scopus Hospital, who arrived at the scene immediately, said that "we at Hadassah express a deep shock at the difficult event that took place here, where we only think about saving lives and working to relieve patients' pain.

Our team, dedicated people who do their job faithfully around the clock, have been beaten and injured, and do not believe that after the efforts invested in caring for a patient, his family has rewarded them with such severe violence.

We must not be silent and rest until the law is exhausted with them in the most severe way.

I stand here tonight in sorrow and embrace each and every one of our staff members.

One of the nurses told me: I have been a nurse for 21 years, this is the first time I have feared for my life.

We will continue to do everything possible to maximize the team's sense of protection in the face of violent incidents. '

The hospital director also emphasized that she had personally updated the Jerusalem District Commander of the Israel Police regarding the difficult incident.
