On Monday, a helicopter circles Nuremberg in continuous operation.
For the residents, that means a lot of noise – and questioning faces.
What is the background?
Nuremberg – On Monday, May 16th, it will be loud in the outskirts of Nuremberg.
A helicopter will be in constant use there.
However, this is not a search or a medical emergency: The helicopter belongs to the energy company N-Ergie and the experts in it are supposed to check the high-voltage lines in Nuremberg.
Helicopter mission in Nuremberg: control from the air
Since May 6, 2022, the energy company has been checking around 2,000 kilometers of power lines.
According to
nordbayern.de
, it's Nuremberg's turn from Monday.
As the company announced in a press release, local residents will hear the noise and downdraft.
"N-ERGIE Netz GmbH regrets the resulting impairments and asks the affected residents for their understanding."
The majority of Nuremberg's power lines are laid underground.
In the outskirts and in the immediate vicinity, however, it is above all high-voltage lines that transport the electricity.
These are now to be checked for damage and functionality by experts from the air.

Current control from the air: helicopter flight over Nuremberg
According to the N-Ergie press release, the helicopter flights will be carried out at a height of around 15 meters and have been coordinated with the Northern Bavarian Air Authority.
According to N-Ergie, “Weak points on masts, insulators and conductor cables can be identified and eliminated at an early stage.”
Due to the weather, however, it could happen that the flight has to be postponed.
According to the energy company, the operation will only be carried out when visibility is clear.
Since the weather in Bavaria can get quite uncomfortable, uninterrupted use of the helicopter may be on the brink.
