The G7 foreign ministers issued a communiqué on May 14 on issues related to Hong Kong, Xinjiang, human rights, maritime affairs, the situation in Ukraine, and peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said on May 16 that the language of the communiqué is absurd and not worth refuting.
Zhao Lijian said that Beijing's position on Hong Kong-related, Xinjiang-related, Taiwan-related and maritime-related issues is consistent and clear, and China has expressed its firm opposition (to the communique) to the G7 presidency.
He pointed out that the so-called "Communiqué" of the G7 Foreign Ministers' Meeting ignored China's solemn position and objective facts, grossly interfered in China's internal affairs, maliciously smeared China, and once again used issues such as the Russia-Ukraine conflict to put pressure on China.
Zhao Lijian said that Beijing urges the G7 to maintain the international system with the United Nations at its core, the international order based on international law, the basic norms of international relations based on the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, respect China's sovereignty, and stop slandering in any form. Smear China and interfere in China's internal affairs, don't bully other countries with family rules.
