Pflugdorf/Le Mans – The trend continues to be the “friend” of Pflugdorf motorbike pro Marcel Schrötter.

He's now very close to the podium - and last Sunday at the French Grand Prix in Le Mans he got his fourth top World Championship result in a row.

After both 4th places in Austin (USA) and Portimao (Portugal) and 5th place in Jerez (Spain), the Kalex driver from the Memminger Liqui Moly Intact GP team secured 6th place in front of 110,000 spectators on the traditional French racetrack. “A good result in a tough race, we can be satisfied with that.

Marcel did a good job, we'll celebrate that,” said team manager Jürgen Lingg in praise of the top German pilot, who, as usual, had problems on Saturday and was able to improve enormously in the race on Sunday.

After qualifying from 13th place, Marcel Schrötter started from 12th place thanks to the retirement of the Englishman Sam Lowes. He made up places quickly, as he did last time in Portimao, benefited from a few retirements (and the fact that he stayed in the saddle), was even for a short time Fifth, finished the race in a strong sixth with the victory of the Spaniard Augusto Fernandez behind the Japanese Ai Ogura, with whom he had fought hard for laps.

"It was a solid race, even if I didn't feel very strong," said the number 23 afterwards.

“I wasn't able to attack like I would have liked.

I quickly noticed that my speed wasn't the best.” Nevertheless, 5th place was possible again: “Unfortunately, I made a small mistake in a duel with Ogura a few laps before the end when sweat ran into my eyes.

That irritated me for a moment and I made a slight mistake on the brakes.

Of course, Ogura took advantage of this opportunity.

From then on I lost three or four tenths of a second and also lost some confidence.

In addition, the grip became increasingly less.

Ogura was able to keep his pace while I struggled to follow him.”

Better in qualifying

Schrötter's summary: "Sixth place is okay, we can be satisfied with that, especially since it's two-digit points again.

We also showed that we are returning to the game step by step, which is the most important thing.

I am also very sure that I will soon improve in qualifying.

Then I will also do better in the races.

In no case should we start having doubts, because we are on the right track.

If we make up ground every time and end up in the top six, that's very good for the championship on the one hand and for the whole team on the other."

In the overall World Championship standings in the Moto2 class, the man from Pflugdorf dropped back from 6th place to 8th place with 57 points after seven of 21 races, despite ten points again.

The next race will take place in Mugello (Italy) on Sunday, May 29th.

"One of the highlights of the season," says Marcel Schrötter happily.

The race starts again at 12.20 p.m., ServusTV broadcasts live as always.
