For a pilot test, the city of Munich is opening the western cemetery to cyclists.
A detailed conclusion will follow in October.
Munich - The city itself describes it as an "absolute novelty in Munich": Next Saturday (May 21) a unique pilot project will begin as part of the Moosach urban redevelopment.
For a limited period of time, cycling is permitted on the Westfriedhof.
"So far, cycling has been prohibited without exception in Munich's cemeteries," the city clarified in its statement.

The starting signal for the test phase is on the Saturday action day, which is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
By October, the municipal cemeteries want to examine and assess whether bicycle traffic and the use of the cemeteries can be tolerated.
According to the announcement, the focus should initially be on "individual burial-free areas".
Children's birthday parties, barbecue parties and other leisure activities in municipal cemeteries have been heating up tempers for years.
"The situation has now reached proportions that should not be ignored if the character of the cemeteries and the existence of the monuments and facilities are to be preserved," said a 2019 proposal for the city council.
The result was patrols by external security services.
It cannot be ruled out that some visitors might be angry at the Radl project that has now been launched.
Munich: Westfriedhof is to gain “city-wide importance as a place of recreation”.
In January 2021, the city council formally designated part of Moosach as a redevelopment area.
"The listed Westfriedhof in Moosach is given the importance of not only being an important place for mourning and remembrance, but also of having a prominent, city-wide importance as a place of recreation," the city writes in its statement.
From Saturday, cyclists should also be able to convince themselves of this.
