The Upper Palatinate Day was held in Amberg for the first time – concerts, readings, exhibitions and more took place in Amberg over the weekend.

Amberg – The Oberpfalztag, which was held for the first time this year, was rated as a complete success by the organizers of the Oberpfalz Marketing eV as well as by the visitors and CSU boss Markus Söder.

Last weekend, May 14th and 15th, the celebrations around the Oberpfalztag took place in Amberg, in future they are to be held every two years.

Upper Palatinate Day in Amberg - presentation of a multifaceted region

The Upper Palatinate Day is intended to show and celebrate the multifaceted nature and innovative strength of the region.

According to BR, several thousand visitors came to the OTH Amberg-Weiden campus and to downtown Amberg, where the celebrations took place.

Various bands started performing on Saturday evening, and on Sunday, the official Upper Palatinate Day, there were concerts, readings, exhibitions, hands-on scientific activities and a big award ceremony.

The aim was to make the many great facets of the region tangible and enjoyable.

Markus Söder celebrates the Oberpfalztag - and the Further Drachen

Bavaria's Prime Minister and CSU boss Markus Söder did not miss the day of joy and came to the Upper Palatinate.

On Instagram he celebrated the "innovative performance show that shows a modern and creative Upper Palatinate".

He then described the region as one of the "up-and-coming regions of Europe", which is traditional and friendly at the same time.

The other visitors also happily accepted the festivities.

Many came and tried their hand at the numerous hands-on stands.

For example, there were VR glasses that could be used to virtually explore the sights of the region.

Research into how a biogas plant works could also be discovered.

A farmer from the Upper Palatinate recently reported himself to the police.

More than 20 cattle had died on his farm because he had stopped looking after them.

Upper Palatinate Day in Amberg: Numerous attractions inspire visitors

The many food trucks and "performances by regional bands from all musical genres, the Landestheater Oberpfalz and the Schwandorf Marionette Theater with puppets from the 3D printer" were also a source of enthusiasm, according to the BR.

One of the main attractions at the Oberpfalztag: The Further dragon "Tradinno".

Another main attraction was the Further dragon, the largest four-legged walking robot in the world.

Built in the district of Cham and used for more than ten years under the name "Tradinno" at Further Drachenstich, the robot can also look forward to an entry in the Guinness Book of Records.
