Bamberg – You needed a clear view, luck with the weather and, above all, you had to get out of bed early: On this Monday morning (May 16) there was a total lunar eclipse, parts of which could also be followed in Bavaria.

In some places, according to the Association of Star Friends in Germany, Earth's satellite will already disappear behind the horizon in the south-west before it is completely immersed in the Earth's shadow.
Observers could sometimes only track a partial lunar eclipse, it was said on Sunday.

During the total as well as the partial lunar eclipse, the moon covered by the earth's shadow shines in reddish, sometimes only in pale colors.
For onlookers in Germany, the moon enters the umbra of the earth shortly before 4:30 a.m.
The totality begins at 5:29 a.m., exactly when the Trabant is setting as seen from the center of Germany.
The middle of the eclipse will be reached at 6.12 a.m., the total phase will end shortly before 7 a.m., the star friends announced.
