While others vacation in Rome and commute between the Colosseum and the Vatican, Princess Elisabeth von Thurn und Taxis prefers to do a workout above the city's rooftops.

Regensburg/Rome – The Eternal City in mid-May.

The sun pelts down undisturbed on Rome.

The thermometer shows 27 degrees.

And while tourists make their way through the winding streets of the Italian capital to see the sights, Princess Elisabeth von Thurn und Taxis trains on the roofs above them.

She shares it with her Instagram fans.

Elisabeth von Thurn und Taxis: Princess does a workout on the roofs of Rome

Rome is not an unknown city for the youngest daughter of Princess Gloria von Thurn und Taxis.

The journalist had already written a column for

Vatican Magazine

entitled fromm.

She is also a self-confessed Catholic and can probably call the Eternal City her second home after her hometown of Regensburg.

But nothing comes from nothing.

This wisdom also applies in Italy and so the 40-year-old has to train despite the bright sunshine.

To the tune of rapper Lizzo's song "Truth Hurts," the princess completes a workout that has washed up.

Upper body training on stretched bands.

Then leg muscle training with weights and trainer.

In the background the skyline of Rome and in between miniature dachshund Ciro scurrying through the picture.

On Instagram, her just over 43,000 fans can watch the whole thing in her story.

The native of Regensburg titled the first of her four training videos with the words "rise & shine", which is the English equivalent of the German "Raus aus den Federn".

In the second picture you can see the 40-year-old with a weight in her hand stepping up and down a heel.

There is also the appropriate motivational slogan “Get it done”.

In the third picture, her trainer is used.

But not only as a motivator, but even as a weight for a leg press exercise.

"Turn your trainer into a human weight," she writes.

Miniature dachshund Ciro apparently doesn't just want to look at all the fuss.

Wagging his tail, he runs across the roof terrace and also between the legs of the princess.

Apparently enough exhausting for the little dog, because in the last part of her Instagram story you can see him lying exhausted in the sun.

Elisabeth von Thurn und Taxis writes “And we chill” about this.

The picture is garnished with a heart and a sweating emoji.

Mum and dog have probably earned a break after the workout.

Elisabeth's mother, Princess Gloria von Thurn und Taxis, recently drove a golf cart.

She visited a skate park in Regensburg and shared it with her Instagram fans.
