Rare and sweet: Five sand kittens were born on safari Israel today

2022-05-16T14:38:17.785Z

Sabia and Ma'rib, the stray cats that came from Europe for a safari in Ramat Gan, gave birth to five cubs • The endangered cats will continue the lineage and the breeding nucleus to allow the special species to continue to exist.

Two-year-old Sabia and four-year-old Maariv, sand cats, came to the safari about two years ago from a zoo in France and Sweden respectively, after the adult couple living on the safari passed away.

Since the stray cats are in danger of extinction, the safari waited and expected that the pair of cats, part of the European breeding nucleus, would be a successful pair that would give birth to offspring.

For the first few weeks they were distant from each other, but as time went on the bond between them grew stronger.

At some point, the therapists began to watch the matings and breathed a sigh of relief.

One day, the caregivers were happy to find out that Sabia was pregnant and the excitement was great.

About a month ago one morning, five puppies were discovered in the night house.

The caregivers peeked at them from a distance and did not approach so as not to disturb the young mother and allowed her excellent conditions so that she could continue to treat them comfortably and without fear.

Five puppies is a huge and rare number and most of them do not survive.

A few weeks later, all five were observed, slowly opening their eyes, strong and vital.

The caregivers attribute this great success to Lesbian who is an exemplary mother and cares for them calmly.

Now the lovely group is already out in the yard and in recent days also from the father-in-law, he has reunited with the group.

Sometimes there is a fear of connecting with the father, lest he harm the puppies, but her grandfather is, as mentioned, a mother of glory and she keeps her offspring and does not allow the maerib to get too close.

Sand cats are globally endangered and all zoos in Europe currently have a total of 178 cats, with less than 10,000 sand cats in the wild.

In the past they also lived in Israel, but became completely extinct and small populations still live in the deserts of Asia and Africa.

Zoos, like the safari, that take part in their breeding nucleus make great efforts to multiply them.

In a few months the puppies will move to zoos across Europe and they will continue the lineage and the breeding nucleus so important for the continued existence of this special species.
