Pedestrians are the most vulnerable population among road users, and the leaders in the severity of their vulnerability in road accidents.
As of this week, the number of deaths since the beginning of the year stands at 43 people - an increase of 30% compared to a figure a year ago.
In a test we conducted last year, we found that the crossing, which is supposed to ensure the safe crossing of pedestrians, became more dangerous, with 77.7% of pedestrians being injured in its area.
From a new analysis of data from the Central Bureau of Statistics it can be deduced what are the most dangerous places for pedestrians, as these indicate the places where a high number of accidents have occurred in the last three years.
This analysis allows the treatment of risk centers, but the question is who is responsible for treating them.
According to the Green Light Association, the responsibility lies with the Ministry of Transportation and Road Safety, but no less so - with the mayors of those dangerous streets.
According to data compiled by the association, in 2020 there were 262 streets where at least three road accidents occurred, in which 4,344 pedestrians were injured, of whom 66 were killed and 643 were seriously injured.

The most dangerous cities
At the top of the list is Derech Begin in Jerusalem with 83 casualties, including 2 killed and 11 seriously injured.
It is followed by Yefet Street in Tel Aviv across Jaffa from Clock Square to Bat Yam, where the number stands at 71 casualties, one killed and 13 seriously injured.
Haim Bar-Lev Street in Ashkelon is in third place, where one pedestrian was killed and 64 were lightly injured.
Ma'ale Yitzhak Street in the Galilee landscape with 61 casualties, including 4 seriously, and Haganah Boulevard in Haifa with 53 casualties, including 5 seriously injured.
When you take a step back and look at the location of these streets, you can see that the big cities of Haifa, Jerusalem and Tel Aviv are the leaders in the number of "red" streets.
117 of the 262 streets where more than 3 road accidents occurred a year were in these cities.

Disagreement by cities indicates that Tel Aviv is the most dangerous, with 19 pedestrians killed in three years.
It is followed by Jerusalem with 14 dead and Haifa with 5 dead.
The next city is Holon, where 5 people were killed, although the number of red streets in it is lower than in Haifa - 18 compared to 23 respectively.
"About a third of those killed in Israel come from the urban space that drains a significant portion of those populations that are at high risk of being injured in a car accident - children, senior citizens, motorcyclists and scooters, pedestrians and cyclists," they say in a green light.
"The multi-accident red streets in cities are a major weakness. In those streets there is a high level of injury, especially among at-risk populations and the responsibility for reducing the high number of casualties lies with mayors - they are well aware of the problems and hotspots in their cities and simple actions can save lives."

The solutions have been on the shelf for years and these have been raised in the ways of bills like that of MK Boaz Toporovsky, which concerns the declaration of entire complexes in cities as a "traffic recession area", where vehicle speed will be limited. Other improvements made in other countries include Infrastructure improvements, ranging from different markings of road markings in the vicinity of crosswalks, elevation of crosswalks, special lighting, analysis of problems in the field of vision in the vicinity of crosswalks and their improvement to level separation projects
