Prefect of the Poitou-Charentes region from 2013 to 2014 then chief of staff to Ségolène Royal at the Ministry of Ecology from 2014 to 2015, Elisabeth Borne chaired the RATP from 2015 to 2017. She was appointed Minister of Transport in the first Edouard Philippe government, just after the election of Emmanuel Macron.
She then became Minister for the Ecological and Inclusive Transition, then Minister for Labour, Employment and Integration in the Jean Castex government.

Second wife at Matignon
The new Prime Minister is the second woman appointed to Matignon under the Fifth Republic, after Edith Cresson from May 1991 to April 1992.
