A child of about one year was hospitalized in serious condition at the Perugia hospital after arriving in the emergency room in cardiac arrest and hypothermia.
Some lesions of an unclear nature were also found on the baby.
According to reports, an investigation has been launched to clarify what happened and the suspicion is that the child may have been a victim of mistreatment.
The investigators - coordinated by the prosecutor of the Umbrian capital - do not however exclude any hypothesis at the moment.
The baby was taken to the hospital, it is not clear by whom, wrapped in a water-soaked blanket.
The mother would then tell the doctors that her son was in danger of choking after eating a cookie and throwing fresh water on him.
According to ANSA, the investigation will have to ascertain, among other things, the hypothesis of ill-treatment.
Now the baby is admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit.
The news is reported by the Messaggero and the Corriere dell'Umbria.
