The number of fines decisions imposed against establishments that violate the provisions of the law regulating work in the private sector reached 52 decisions during the month of April.

In a statement to SANA, Mahmoud Damrani, Director of the Labor Directorate at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor stated that the labor inspectors, during their periodic visits to private facilities during the past month, organized 52 decisions violating the provisions of the Labor Organization Law for these facilities, explaining that the value of the fines amounted to 16 million Syrian pounds.

According to Damrani, the violations ranged between the absence of an occupational health and safety committee in the facility, the failure to organize contracts for some workers, the employment of persons under the legal age for work, non-compliance with the minimum wage, the absence of a file for the worker, and the suspension of the facility without obtaining the approval of the Ministry.

Damrani pointed out that the number of internal regulations for the labor system and workers in private establishments approved by the ministry during the past month amounted to 4, while the number of industrial and commercial establishments and private educational institutions before university education who granted the ministry's approval to stop work, whether totally, partially or temporarily, reached 8 establishments during same period.

It is noteworthy that the value of the fines last year amounted to 120 million Syrian pounds, and inspections of facilities are carried out periodically within a pre-established plan of no less than one visit per year, suddenly, or based on a complaint submitted by one of the workers.
