Prime Minister Hendrik Wüst surprisingly clearly won the state elections in North Rhine-Westphalia with the CDU – but SPD top candidate Thomas Kutschaty still has a glimmer of hope.

One thing is clear: the previous black-yellow coalition will no longer be enough in the most populous federal state.

FDP top candidate Joachim Stamp now sees it as the turn of the election winners, the CDU and the Greens - and assumes that they will form a government.

The North Rhine-Westphalian SPD Secretary General Nadja Lüders also says: "Of course, the government mandate lies with the CDU and the Greens."

Bis zuletzt lieferten sich die CDU mit Ministerpräsident Hendrik Wüst (46) und die SPD mit Herausforderer Thomas Kutschaty (53) in Umfragen ein Kopf-an-Kopf-Rennen. An die kleine Störergruppe gewandt, rief der Politiker unter großem Beifall der Zuhörer zu: „Die tapferen Ukrainerinnen und Ukrainer verteidigen sogar die Freiheit von denen da, die sie mit Füßen treten.“

Die FDP bildet in Nordrhein-Westfalen aktuell eine Koalition mit der CDU. Letzte Umfragen sehen die FDP überwiegend bei sieben bis acht Prozent, für eine Neuauflage einer schwarz-gelben Regierung in NRW würde es nicht reichen. Bei der Landtagswahl 2017 hatte die FDP noch 12,6 Prozent geholt.

Grünen-Vorsitzende Ricarda Lang sprach, ebenfalls im WDR, hingegen von einer spürbaren „Wechselstimmung“ – bei den Grünen schaue man daher „optimistisch auf den Tag“. Grünen-Spitzenkandidatin Mona Neubar wurde bei Kundgebungen in Düsseldorf und Köln der Rücken von Bundeswirtschaftsminister Robert Habeck gestärkt. Update vom Samstag, 14. Mai, 08.00 Uhr: Einen Tag vor der Landtagswahl in Nordrhein-Westfalen werben die Parteien am Samstag (14. Mai) noch einmal um jede Wählerstimme. Nachdem CDU, SPD und Grüne schon am Freitag ihre zentralen Abschlusskundgebungen abhielten, kommt für die FDP am Samstag (ab 17.00 Uhr) Bundes- und Landesprominenz zum Finale nach Düsseldorf. In der NRW-Landeshauptstadt werben Bundesfinanzminister Christian Lindner sowie der stellvertretende NRW-Ministerpräsident und Spitzenkandidat Joachim Stamp um Wählerstimmen.

CDU und SPD liefern sich ein enges Rennen in den Umfragen – mit leichtem Vorsprung für die Christdemokraten. CDU-Ministerpräsident Hendrik Wüst und sein SPD-Herausforderer Thomas Kutschaty machen am Samstag Straßenwahlkampf. Kutschaty wirbt in Essen, Düsseldorf und Gelsenkirchen um Stimmen. Erstmeldung vom Freitag, 13. Mai: Düsseldorf – Am Sonntag, dem 15. Mai, findet die Landtagswahl 2022 in Nordrhein-Westfalen statt. Bürgerinnen und Bürger können ihre Stimmen im Zeitraum von 8.00 Uhr bis 18.00 Uhr in den Wahllokalen abgeben oder zuvor per Briefwahl von ihrem Wahlrecht Gebrauch machen. Wahlberechtigt sind alle Deutschen, die am Wahlsonntag das 18. Lebensjahr vollendet haben, seit mindestens dem 16. Tag vor der Wahl in NRW wohnen und nicht anderweitig vom Wahlrecht ausgeschlossen sind.

Nach den Wahlen im Saarland und in Schleswig-Holstein handelt es sich dabei um das dritte Votum der Landtagswahlen 2022. Wann das Ergebnis feststehen wird, lässt sich jedoch nicht genau sagen. Landtagswahl NRW: Bleibt Hendrik Wüst Ministerpräsident?

Bei der Landtagswahl in Nordrhein-Westfalen treten neben dem amtierenden Ministerpräsidenten Hendrik Wüst (CDU) unter anderem dessen Stellvertreter Joachim Stamp (FDP) sowie SPD-Politiker Thomas Kutschaty – der Amtsinhaber und der Sozialdemokrat gelten als Spitzenkandidaten.

Den meisten Umfragen zufolge liegen Wüst und Kutschaty häufig gleichauf, beziehungsweise knapp voreinander. Eine Erhebung des Meinungsforschungsinstituts Infratest dimap, welche vom WDR in Auftrag gegeben wurde, sah die CDU am 3. April 2022 bei 31 Prozent, die SPD hingegen bei 30 Prozent. Andere Institute sehen wiederum die SPD vor den Christdemokraten. Es dürfte spannend werden.
