After a summery weekend, thunderstorms move to Bavaria.

The start of the week will be uncomfortable.

A hurricane sparks a "dangerous weather situation".

Munich – It's warm in the Free State.

On Sunday (May 15), temperatures climbed to 24 to 27 degrees in many regions of Bavaria.

The sun shone from a cloudless sky for most of the weekend.

Only in Lower Bavaria and Upper Franconia did she hide behind a cloud cover from time to time.

At the start of the week, more desert air comes to Germany, so the temperatures continue to rise.

However, a thunderstorm line is also forming, which will move across the Free State on Monday and result in severe weather.

Weather in Bavaria: Hurricane brings desert air and "fires up" storms with heavy rain

"Severe weather threatens on Monday," predicts meteorologist Jan Schenk from

The Weather Channel

in his forecast.

"A storm off Western Europe constantly pumps hot Saharan air to Germany." This can also lead to strong thunderstorms, the hurricane over the Atlantic "fires" them.

A "precarious weather situation" arises.

In a video, Schenk explains that the thunderstorms will move from France to Germany on Monday morning.

However, they are not that strong.

At the start of the week, a "thunderstorm line" moves across the Free State.

"But as soon as the air heats up again at midday, it becomes dangerous." Then a "thunderstorm line" forms, according to Schenk.

As can be seen on the weather map, this line will cross Bavaria over the course of Monday.

"Storm gusts of up to 100 km/h are then possible." Large hail, heavy rain and flooding could also occur.

Munich in particular is the focus of the thunderstorms.

But there also seems to be a lot going on in Nuremberg and Middle Franconia.

"Please be really careful, these are heavy thunderstorms that are coming," warns the meteorologist.

There will still be thunderstorms in some regions on Tuesday.

Weather in Bavaria: DWD warns of local storms due to "heavy heavy rain"

In its forecast, the German Weather Service (DWD) predicts the first thunderstorms on Monday night in Franconia and Swabia.

"There is potential for heavy rain of up to 25 l/sqm in a short time and gusts of up to 60 km/h." From midday onwards there will be more thunderstorms with heavy rain and hail.

"In the afternoon and evening, local storms due to heavy rain up to 40 l/sqm," writes the DWD.

“It will be really hot again from Wednesday”

The weather in Bavaria will recover over the course of the week and it will be “really hot again”, as Schenk promises.

The temperatures then rise again to highs of between 21 and 24 degrees.

The warmest days seem to be Wednesday and Thursday.

  • Augsburg: 21 degrees

  • Würzburg: 24 degrees

  • Regensburg: 23 degrees

  • Ingolstadt: 22 degrees

The weather situation then repeats itself at the weekend and there is a threat of thunderstorms throughout Bavaria, which according to Schenk “also bring the potential for severe weather again”.
