A 40-year-old Jerusalem resident was arrested yesterday (Sunday) by the police on suspicion of committing sexual offenses against minors within an organization he heads that empowers youth and prepares them for military service. Connections with young apprentices, took advantage of his closeness to them while misrepresenting his military and professional past in order to gain their trust.
The arrest was made after a covert police investigation into the matter.
At this time, the suspect is brought before a court, where the police will ask for an extension of his detention. The investigation continues and a suspicion is examined that the detainee committed sexual offenses while taking advantage of authority and other offenses.
This is not the only case in the area where complaints of sexual exploitation through power relations are heard.
Beitar Illit police last week arrested the suspect Shulamit Bracha Landau, 50, principal of the city's girls' school, on suspicion of committing indecent acts on a number of minors studying at the institution.
At this point, about three complainants contacted the police, telling of exploitation and harm by the principal.
