The Throne Hall in the Damascus Citadel hosts the annual spring exhibition for 2022, which is held by the Directorate of Fine Arts in the Ministry of Culture in support of young plastic artists as an opportunity to take the hand of this promising group and with the aim of renewing and continuing the artistic movement and developing it in various fields of visual creativity

The exhibition, which witnessed a remarkable turnout from the generation of young artists who flocked to attend it amid a standing ovation from prominent plastic artists in the Syrian plastic scene, included 47 works that varied between works of photography with techniques

It varied between oil, acrylic, and collage, with styles ranging from expressive, realistic, and close to abstraction, while the graphic works included multi-print engraving techniques.

The sculpture works were designed from materials that varied between wood, stone and metal, in expressive and abstract methods, with a remarkable presence of the art of preparation in the void, as the “Deficit” project of a graduate of the Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Painting, Gulnar Sreiky, was unique in that art, which was recently born in Damascus.

The exhibition, which continues until the 26th of this month for 11 years, has sponsored the talents of plastic artists between the ages of 19 and 35 years, and incentive prizes are distributed to the distinguished among them in appreciation of their contribution to the success of this creative event. Sheikhmus first prize in graphic art, while Alyssa Khchifati won second prize.

In a statement to reporters, Minister of Culture Dr. Lubana Mushawah confirmed that the annual spring exhibition is an embodiment of Syria and the Ministry of Culture's embrace of young artists, as this year was distinguished by the quality of the paintings selected by the jury at the expense of the number that witnessed a decrease compared to previous exhibitions, explaining that the plastic schools to which the paintings belonged were characterized With novelty and modernity, what helps the artist to move from a style he is accustomed to to new creative styles to continue renewal and innovation in the end.

Head of the Department of Exhibitions and Collections at the Directorate of Fine Arts, Rana Hussein, explained that the exhibition is a collection of artworks of various techniques, showing the interest and compatibility of the Ministry of Culture with the young generation of academic artists, graduates of colleges and institutes of fine arts, to give them the opportunity to present their fruitful experiences and urge them to provide the best by sharing their ideas and methods. Artistic with their peers in joint exhibitions.

The Head of the Sculpture Department at the Technical Institute of Applied Arts saw that the Spring Exhibition constitutes an important and influential annual artistic phenomenon in the Syrian plastic movement that needs the support of young plastic artists to advance visual arts to complete the march of the veteran plastic artists, indicating that the participating works this year are valuable at the level currently presented under the current circumstances. Especially since the completion of artistic works requires them to have material and moral energy.

Hanan Al-Hajj participated in a anthropomorphic depicting a human being through which she recycled tin metal to express what goes on inside the human being and to show the scars and fractures generated by ten years of war, but it still pulsates with love, beauty and creativity.

She expressed her happiness with the exhibition, which, from her point of view, constitutes an opportunity to meet the younger generations and publish the experiences of artists and learn about other artistic experiences in an attempt to break out of the shell of individual skills.

Rabea Khalil, a graduate of the Institute of Applied Arts, chose the title “Qom” for the wooden composition in which he participated and represents the broken man who imitates himself in order to try to advance his life for the better. He used pine wood because it is the closest to the human spirit in terms of its compliance with the artwork, pointing out that these exhibitions refine the talents of young people and increase their knowledge. And experience is in itself a real artistic value.

After participating in the past ten seasons of the exhibition, Nour Al-Kawa says: Since the exhibition bears the name of Spring, I chose my painting to embody with its theme and thought the age stage experienced by young people through a tree rich in color and composition that reflects the peak of giving and production.

As for Tasneem Sheikhmus, a graduate of the College of Fine Arts, who has been participating for three years, she confirmed that winning the award gives an incentive for any artist to complete his artistic career, increase his self-confidence, and develop his ambition to hold solo exhibitions for him in the future.

Zainab Ali, a graduate of the Faculty of Fine Arts and a holder of a master's degree, considered that her annual participation in the exhibition is essential to her. This year, she presented a painting in the graphic department entitled “A funeral in the midst of fire” with a prominent linoleum printing technique that narrates part of the crisis that affected Syria and depicts the funeral of a martyr amidst the explosions .
