The Likud's dilemma: to support the law in favor of the soldiers or to continue the boycott of the coalition
Today, a "Dimensions for Studies" law will be put to the vote, which grants a scholarship of two-thirds of the tuition fees at the academy for combatants and lone soldiers.
Due to the lack of support from RAAM and the retirement of Idit Silman, the coalition does not have a majority. The Likud is debating whether to support or torpedo the law at the cost of harming soldiers

The coalition is expected to bring today (Monday) to a final vote the Dimensions for Education Law, which stipulates that fighters, lone soldiers, and soldiers of special socio-status will be entitled to a scholarship after graduation of 66% of tuition.
The plan was launched by Finance Minister Avigdor Lieberman, who was then Defense Minister, in 2016. Two years ago, the Netanyahu government decided to condition the scholarship on volunteer hours - which contradicts the main points of the law.
In the coalition agreements, Yisrael Beiteinu demanded that the original law be included in the budget base, so that the plan would return to its former state, and now it is ready to vote.

However, after the retirement of MK Idit Silman, and in light of the lack of support from RAAM, the coalition does not have a majority for approving the law.
In recent days, calls have been made for the opposition to support the law, which is intended to benefit the soldiers.
On the other hand, the Likud opposes all coalition legislation.
However, due to the nature of the law, MKs in the Likud will demand today at the faction's weekly meeting to support the law, because otherwise it will present them as harming IDF soldiers.
The final decision will be made prior to the vote.
