The Italian company Boat Lift has custom-designed a fully electric boat lift for the La Rochelle marina.

The boat seems very small compared to the immensity of the machine.

This boat from the management of the marina of La Rochelle still weighs 2.5 tonnes, lifted by an imposing orange machine.

Matteo Scarafiotti, representative of Boat Lift, takes a close look at this unprecedented operation.

The Italian company has custom-made a 100% electric boat lift for the port facility, with a lifting capacity of 15 tonnes.

This Thursday, May 12, he maneuvered for the first time in his new home port.

“It works with five 50 KW lithium batteries, designed to last a day.

Autonomy was our challenge.

And they go from 0 to 100% in two hours, which leaves the possibility of charging them between noon and two if necessary, ”explains the professional.

A lift of this type is used to take ships out or put them back in the water.

About 7,000 crane operations are carried out every year in the port of La Rochelle.

On a day, there can sometimes be 15 launches.

Goal: zero carbon

The machine therefore complements the existing machines, which themselves run on diesel.

“There are hybrid models but the all-electric is a first in France.

We think there is one in a port in Spain, but we have not had confirmation,” said Bertrand Moquay, the port director.

The establishment has invested 212,000 euros in this device.

“We made this choice of electric which is part of the La Rochelle Zero Carbon Territory approach, we are one of the experimental sites.

Gradually, we are decarbonizing our fleets on land and afloat with the acquisition of electric vehicles.

It also makes it possible to show the way to the little friends because certain representatives of the Atlantic ports have already come to see it and they were very interested”, continues the manager.

Beyond the "zero emission" aspect, other advantages are listed: reduction of noise pollution, operating costs, the range of spare parts, or even the elimination of potential hydraulic leaks.
