Hacking of the Lviv City Hall

5.28 a.m .:

The city administration of the western Ukrainian city of Lviv has become the target of a cyber attack by suspected Russian hackers.

As a result of the attack last Friday, some city services were no longer available, Deputy Mayor Andriy Moskalenko wrote on Facebook.

Part of it had been restored by Sunday.

The attackers also stole internal information from the city administration, which was then published in "hostile" information channels on the Telegram chat service, Moskalenko wrote.

Russia is also conducting attacks on the "IT front" and you have to be careful offline and online.

The Ukraine has long been in the sights of hacker groups, which Western IT security experts attribute to the environment of Russian secret services.

Ukrainian troops advance from Kharkiv to the border

5.27 a.m .:

Ukrainian troops report a symbolic success in their counter-offensive in the eastern Kharkiv region: they have advanced to at least one point as far as the border with Russia.

The Ukrainian Defense Ministry released a video showing a dozen soldiers standing next to a border post in the national colors of blue and yellow.

According to the information, they belong to a volunteer brigade from the city of Kharkiv.

The Ukrainian military had already reported in the past few days that they were gradually pushing back Russian troops near Kharkiv.

Russia had already withdrawn its troops in northern Ukraine after being stopped in front of the capital, Kyiv.

Moscow is currently concentrating on the eastern Ukrainian regions of Donetsk and Luhansk, where pro-Russian separatists have controlled some areas with the help of Moscow since 2014.

Ukraine still controls 10 percent of Luhansk

5.24 a.m .:

Despite heavy Russian attacks, the Ukrainian army still controls around ten percent of the eastern Ukrainian region of Luhansk, according to the regional governor.

In particular, the Russians have not been able to take the outskirts of the cities of Rubishne, Sievjerodonetsk and Lysychansk so far, Serhiy Hajday said.

Moscow said last week that pro-Russian separatists, with the help of the Russian army, had advanced to the administrative borders of Luhansk just eleven weeks after the war began.

Hajdaj called these statements "fantasy" at the time.

In the Donetsk region, also in eastern Ukraine, 3 civilians were killed and 13 others injured in Russian attacks on Sunday, according to the regional administration.

The fighting is now largely concentrated in the east and south of Ukraine.

Pro-Russian separatists are laying claim to the entire territory of the two Ukrainian administrative regions for the self-proclaimed People's Republics of Donetsk and Luhansk.

Belarus reports billions in damage due to western sanctions

2.47 a.m .:

According to the state news agency Belta, the western sanctions against Belarus are causing losses in the billions.

"Because of the sanctions, almost all Belarusian exports to the countries of the European Union and North America are blocked," Belta quoted Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko from a transcript of an interview with the Dubai-based television channel Al-Arabiya.

The damage amounts to “about 16 to 18 billion dollars a year”.

Selenskyj also wants to seek support in Africa and Asia

2.14 a.m .:

The Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj wants to increasingly ask for help in the Russian war of aggression against his country in Africa and Asia.

He wants to speak to parliaments in other countries, said Zelenskyj in his daily video address.

In the past few months, the Ukrainian President had, among other things, asked parliamentarians in Europe via video link for support.

In a week he also wants to address the World Economic Forum in Davos, where, among other things, post-war reconstruction will be discussed.

One goal is also the tightening of sanctions against Russia, stressed Selenskyj.

"The occupiers must constantly feel the increasing price of war for them." The oil embargo against Russia is a priority.

“No matter how much Moscow tries to obstruct this decision, Europe's period of dependence on Russian energy resources is coming to an end.

And that won't change," said Zelenskyy.

Ukrainian Post plans postage stamp for Kalush Orchestra's ESC victory

1.41

a.m .: The Ukrainian postal service wants to commemorate the victory of the Kalush Orchestra band in the Eurovision Song Contest with a stamp.

An art committee decides on the motifs, Post boss Igor Smilyanskij wrote on Facebook.

However, he thinks that he will have enough arguments to speed up the issue of such a stamp.

Kalush Orchestra clearly won the ESC on Sunday night thanks to an unprecedented response from television viewers.

Ukraine now wants to host the ESC next year regardless of the current Russian war of aggression in its own country.

The last two Ukrainian ESC winners - the singers Ruslana and Jamala - were also honored with stamps.

The post boss published a draft for the stamp with the text "Save Mariupol, save Azov-Stahl" - based on the appeal of frontman Oleh Psyuk after the performance on Saturday.

Psyuk, meanwhile, announced that the band intends to auction off the ESC trophy and donate the proceeds to Ukraine and the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Incendiary bombs on steel plant in Mariupol

12:37 a.m

: According to a video published on Telegram, firebombs are falling on the Azov steel plant in the Ukrainian port city of Mariupol.

White, brightly glowing projectiles can be seen in video posted to Telegram on Sunday by Alexander Khodakovsky, a commander of the pro-Russian self-proclaimed Donetsk Republic.

Reuters could not immediately determine what type of ammunition was used and when the video was taken.

A British military expert says it looks like an attack with phosphorus or incendiary weapons.

According to Ukraine, around 600 soldiers are still waiting in the plant, 40 of whom are seriously injured.

White phosphorus is used to create plumes of smoke, mark targets, or set fire to bunkers and buildings.
