At least 17 people have been detained in connection with the murder of Paraguayan prosecutor Marcelo Pecci in Colombia, according to authorities.

At least 17 people have been arrested in connection with the murder of Paraguayan prosecutor Marcelo Pecci in Colombia last week, according to authorities in that country.

Jorge Luis Vargas, director of the Colombian National Police, said in a press release that the 17 detainees have pending extradition requests and that nine countries are looking for them on drug trafficking and money laundering charges.

Among those detained are citizens of Colombia, Venezuela, Italy, the Dominican Republic, the Netherlands and Albania, according to Vargas.

The police highlighted the capture of Diego Mauricio Blanco, the alleged head of one of the largest cocaine trafficking operations in Brazil, known as 'Clan Rocha', which has ties to the structure of the First Capital Command (PCC) of Brazil, one of the groups that prosecutor Pecci was investigating.
