"We married him in the hope of having the pleasure of becoming grandparents," demand his parents, who argue that they invested a lot of money in their son's education in the US.

A couple sued their only son and daughter-in-law in India because they have not had children in the six years they have been married.

They demand that they give them a grandchild within a year or pay them $675,000.

The injunction filed by Sanjeev Ranjan Prasad and his wife, Sadhana Prasad, residents of the city of Haridwar, is based on the damages allegedly caused by their son, according to the news agency The Associated Pres.

Parents consider that they spent a lot of money on their son's education as a pilot and feel sad when they see other children playing with their grandparents.

"We want a grandson or granddaughter within a year or compensation, because I have spent my life's income on my son's education," said Prasad, who is a retired civil servant.

The man assures that he spent 3.5 million rupees (about 47,000 dollars) in the education of his son in the United States, and that he also gave him a car and paid for the honeymoon of the couple, 35 and 31 years old.

"We married him hoping to have the pleasure of becoming grandparents. It has been six years since his marriage," he added.

Arvind Srivastava, a lawyer for the plaintiffs, argued that they both want someone to take care of them.

"All parents want to be grandparents one day," he told CNN news network.

In addition to a grandson's lawsuit, the legal document also contains a list of complaints against the family of his son's wife, according to CNN.

These types of demands are rare in India, but there are a series of regulations that impose that children take care of their elderly parents and continue the family line, such as a federal law that allows adult children to require a monthly payment.

Both The Associated Press and CNN attempted to contact the defendants but received no response.
