It is not only in France that unemployment is falling.
The United Kingdom also announced, on Tuesday May 17, a drop in its unemployment rate to the record level of 3.7% of the working population in March (against 3.8% the previous month), the lowest since 1974. And this, while the GDP was declining and the country is on the verge of a recession, with record inflation.
The history of the labor market across the Channel has been, for years, the absolute counter-example of the known situation in France.
From nearly 10% in the early 1990s, its level has been halved to reach a situation of near full employment.
It rebounded during the financial crisis of 2008, to fall even lower on a regular basis thereafter.

But if many British workers are struggling to make ends meet despite their activity, the unemployed are in a situation of poverty.
The allowances are among the lowest of the industrialized countries: 331 pounds per month maximum (391 euros).
