Heat thunderstorms with lightning and thunder, then record temperatures thanks to the Spanish heat wave and finally severe storms with the risk of tornadoes - the weather in the coming week will be extreme.

Prognosis.

Munich – The next week (May 16th to 22nd) will bring a change in the weather that can only be described as severe.

Thunderstorms, storms, plenty of rain - and then heat without end.

A high from Spain brings Germany sun, summer and record temperatures of over 30 degrees Celsius on the barometer from Wednesday until Friday brings the crashing bill.

Weather trend Germany: Monday and Tuesday rainy - from Wednesday two days of heat wave

High air pressure prevails over Germany thanks to Hoch Xenophon;

Cold fronts from the Atlantic don't stand a chance against the summer weather and sunshine accompanies the end of the week.

The last day of the ice saints therefore does not live up to its name.

Only at night, with changing clouds, will there possibly be a little rain in the Black Forest, but according to qualified meteorologist Dominik Jung from the

Q.met

weather service , at a pleasant 17 to 18 degrees Celsius.

Monday also started warmly, but while it remained dry and friendly for a long time in the north and east of Germany, hot air from the south and the approaching cold front met in the far west in the late morning.

The result is thunderstorms, which spread southwards from the North Sea across central Germany over the course of the day, especially towards the evening.

Severe storms with hail and squalls are to be expected in some cases.

While the north and north-east are largely spared, the risk of violent thunderstorms is particularly great in the west and south-west.

In the night to Tuesday, which in itself would lure with the blissful moon, the storms are slowly moving to the east, in the northern center of Germany 15-20 liters of rain per square meter are to be expected.

Tuesday itself will be friendly again in the West, while bringing some rain to the South;

however, the amounts of rain are not too plentiful.

While Wednesday only brings rain here and there, nationwide it will be friendly, dry and the sun will shine with summer temperatures.

The heat is coming from Spain from Thursday - but the muggy warm weather can at least be made a little more bearable with a practiced jump into local lakes or a visit to the outdoor pool.

On Thursday, Jung predicts, warm air from North Africa will reach Germany via the Iberian Peninsula.

According to the weather model, the air masses have a temperature of 10 to 16 degrees Celsius at an altitude of 1500 meters.

It will therefore be extremely warm on the ground on Thursdays.

"A muggy affair," is the conclusion of meteorologist Corinna Borau at

wetter.com

, who is forecasting a heat wave.

But the two-day heat from Spain takes its toll at the weekend: starting with showers in the west and south-west, heat thunderstorms are already expected towards the evening, on Friday there will be heavy thunderstorms from the west across Germany and even tornado potential.

The coming weekend is therefore considered to be the first major storm situation to be expected in 2022. The storm line will continue on Saturday, and on Sunday the weather can be expected to be somewhat calmer with local rain showers.

Weather forecast Germany: Temperatures over 30 degrees Celsius - Tuesday the "first tropical night"

In terms of temperature, the next week will bring fluctuations, but basically it will remain warm during the day and at night.

Monday night brings a mild 17 to 18 degrees Celsius, before the first day of the new week comes up with 22 to 30 degrees Celsius.

According to Borau, Tuesday will be the "first tropical night" before Wednesday completes the heat hat-trick despite the previous rainfall.

In the middle of the country there are 22 to 31 degrees Celsius, in the west the barometers fluctuate around 30/31 degrees Celsius and the north can also look forward to warm summer days with at least 20 degrees Celsius.

Thursdays will be muggy, with temperatures on the Rhine reaching a record 32 degrees Celsius.

That is a full ten degrees Celsius more than would normally be expected for May.

With 33 degrees Celsius on Friday, the temperature will ease over the weekend, not least thanks to the impending storms, and the record heat will cool down to a more manageable 18 to 24 degrees Celsius.

Current weather for Germany: “problem child” May – month far too dry so far

Even if imminent storms do not usually receive much acclaim, as Jung points out, they are currently more than desirable.

The graduate meteorologist describes the previous rate of precipitation in the merry month as a "problem child in May".

According to the European weather model, the necessary amount of rain is not expected to catch up anytime soon.

Serious amounts of water are not expected until May 17th, averaging ten liters per square meter.

However, a real final spurt to the precipitation target is not to be expected until May 27th: the heavenly locks should bring an average of 35 liters per square meter by then.

One's joy, the other's sorrow: Regular thunderstorms rained down quite a few visits to the beer garden this week - but in the course of the ongoing drought, the rain is sorely needed for flora and fauna.

However, according to Jung, the amplitude in this regard is more than large: while 95 liters per square meter are expected in some places, other regions have to be content with just five liters per square meter.

Accordingly, there is also great uncertainty among weather researchers as to whether the end of the month will bring rain across the board, or whether May will simply remain far too dry and thus correspond to the forecast for summer 2022.
