On the Children's and Young People's Day, 38 clubs showed how to spend one's leisure time sensibly.

Hundreds of children and parents cavorted on the site.

Geretsried - "Regular smell training is even better than Sudoku for the upper body," says Christine Böhm from the health department in Bad Tölz.

Anyone who sniffs herbs, spices and other natural substances for five minutes a day will retain their sense of smell into old age.

Böhm has set up lovage – also known as Maggi herb –, oregano, marjoram and other greens at her stand.

In addition, visitors can test the tastes sweet, sour, salty, bitter and umami using the corresponding foods.

Adults can learn from it too

As an adult, you could also learn something new on the Children and Youth Day, which took place for the 14th time on Sunday after a two-year Corona break around the Saftladen youth center in Geretsried.

In the best weather, hundreds of children and parents cavorted on the site.

38 clubs, youth organizations and other participants presented themselves from their best side.

From pony riding to underwater rugby

The Shetland ponies Liesl and Beauty owned by Claudia Werner from Baierlach patiently carried one child after the other on their backs across the meadow at the sports field.

The members of Angelika Kassner's dog sport friends in Königsdorf let their Border Collies perform little dances and tricks.

Axel Freitel, head of the Geretsried tennis club, gave free trial lessons.

The women from the "Wilde Rose" scout club put glitter tattoos on countless forearms.

At the "Nail and Thread" club, you could decorate jewelry boxes or make miniature maypoles, and in the indoor pool, the Oberland Diving Club invited you to a trial lesson in diving or underwater rugby.

"Take a look at all the leisure activities in Geretsried with your children," Mayor Michael Müller encouraged the visitors in his welcoming address.

The city organizes the popular family day together with the supporting association for youth and social work (TVJA).

Its managing director Rudi Mühlhans was pleased "that something is finally stirring again".

His wife Tini Schwarm also contributed to the success of the day of action.

She performed oriental and modern dances with the women's group from TRIGG, a trauma-educational intensive group for refugees.

To the music and choreography by pop star Shakira, the participants of different nationalities – but mostly African women – and of different ages let their hips gyrate.

Schwarm has been supervising the group as part of her internship as a social work student since last autumn.

"The dance not only has a beneficial effect on the body and its organs, but also gives joy and strengthens mental well-being," she explained.

Clubs recruit young people

The club representatives used the children's and youth day to recruit young people.

The TC Geretsried is the largest tennis club in the district, "but we can always use young newcomers," said Axel Freitel.

At the Red Cross Youth stand, where visitors had to install organs such as hearts and kidneys in the right place in a plastic doll as quickly as possible, one would be just as happy to see young members as at the technical relief organization or the volunteer fire brigade.

As an incentive, the children and young people received stamp cards.

For each station they passed through, they received a stamp and, with the full card, a drink or meal from the wide range on offer.

The 14-year-old Klora from Gelting would not have needed this additional motivation: “I would have tried everything.

I find it super exciting what there is in Geretsried and the surrounding area," she said after the handicrafts at "Nail and Thread" and before she stopped by the TuS Geretsried show dance.
