Germering - For a week there was a lot going on on Untere Bahnhofstraße - and that was different than usual. The "Institute for Appreciation" campaign week was a guest in a section of the street between Kleiner Stachus and the railway underpass.

The project - a cooperation between the collective Raumstation Wien and the city of Germering - was funded by the government of Upper Bavaria/Urban development funding as part of the special fund "Invigorate inner cities".

With the end of the action week, the day of urban development funding was also reached.

Petra Tech, head of location promotion, had been planning something special for this day for several years.

This year we succeeded together with the Viennese collective.

The collective also exists in Berlin and Weimar, among other places.

Young people have come together here to take a critical look at cities and re-evaluate them in a playful and creative way.

For a week, two parking bays were converted into a space research station to discuss, research or, for example, hold workshops for school classes or seniors - always with the aim of looking at Untere Bahnhofstraße from a different perspective and evaluating the quality of stay.

Rediscover Germering on a perception walk

Participants were able to rediscover the center of Germering on a perceptual walk or build stools in a construction workshop, which should initially remain in front of the shopping street next to flower boxes as places to linger.

Distances are also estimated and remeasured or the decibel value is measured.

"People were more open than expected," explains Lilly Seiler from the Vienna collective.

The Germeringers not only came specifically to the workshops at the stand with the heading 'Institute for Appreciation', but also spontaneously addressed the members of the collective.

A big change all at once is difficult, according to Seiler, "rather small ones at a time".

"The road is in need of repairs.

So why not incorporate ideas from the public in advance,” explains Tech.

emotion mapping

By means of an emotion mapping, the Germeringer were able to specifically deal with the problems of the Untere Bahnhofstraße.

A long table was set up on the other side of the street, on which data could be collected with the help of emotion mapping, so that the Germeringers could deal with the problems of Untere Bahnhofstraße in a targeted manner.

Sources of danger such as "reckless parking by drivers" were criticized or suggestions for improvement such as "more green", "create seats" and "bicycle-friendly design" or "speed down" were made.

A final analysis is then delivered to the city.
