Within the activities of the cultural celebration organized by the Al-Adyat Association on the occasion of the centenary of the birth of the great Syrian writer and historian Gabriel Saadeh and twenty-five years since his death, Dar Al-Assad for Culture and Arts in Lattakia hosted an exhibition of Syrian plastic art with the participation of 17 male and female artists.

The participants presented various paintings, artwork and sculptural works that talked about Lattakia through the eyes of the Syrian formation. The participating art schools and topics varied, all inspired by nature and the sea, in colors that reflect the beauty of the nature of Latakia and its sea, in addition to heritage works and works that embody Arabic calligraphy with rhythm and harmonious color formation that dominates the participating works.

The head of the Central Exhibitions and Halls Office in Latakia, Hussein Saqour, said in a statement to SANA that his participation came with two works, speaking about the effect of the Phoenician blue and red-purple color, which he derived from the rhythm of marine music, his formations and his abstract expressive style, and his projections on reality and imagination.

The participation of the sculptor Hassan Halabi came with two sculptural works, the first entitled Syrian Women, which is in the form of a bunch of grapes and a lung representing the women of the country, in addition to another work, “You Cry” waiting for the new morning and the new hope for Syria, explaining that he followed the two schools of cubism and realism and had other works such as stone, graphic and copper sculpture, while I participated Artist Rana Mahmoud with a work embodied with the face of a queen and archaeological features symbolizing the eastern queen.

The cultural celebration includes a series of scientific and historical symposia, artistic activities and various exhibitions.

It is noteworthy that Gabriel Saadeh, born in 1922, studied at the Carmelite School, obtained a law degree in 1944, won the first prize in his life in the field of literature in 1938, founded the “Youth” club in 1941, headed the Musical Club in 1961, founded the “Friends of Ugarit” association in 1950, and founded the “Lattakia” sports club in 1955. He also headed the Sports Institutes Club in 1961, the Al-Adiyat Association in 1977 and the Arab Writers Union in Lattakia 1981. He has written many books on antiquities and heritage.
