A thief went to work in Steingaden in an extremely bold manner on Monday.

While the owner was working in the garden, he stole a number of valuables from the house.

A 34-year-old suspect has already been identified, but the officers released him again.

Steingaden – As reported by the police in Schongau, around 4:45 p.m. an initially unknown Nigerian origin entered the property of the 47-year-old on Grubfeldweg to beg for money and food.

The woman was busy gardening and sent the man away.

He didn't give up, appeared again and asked for work.

But the homeowner couldn't offer that to the 34-year-old either.

Escape through the toilet window

According to the police, the man then entered the property from the back, walked through the garden and entered the family home through the open patio door.

Before that, he stole a mobile phone from the terrace.

According to the officials, the 34-year-old was looking for cash in the house and found it in a wallet.

He also stole a gold chain and cash from the woman's bedside table before climbing out the toilet window and attempting to flee.

Woman confronts perpetrators

In the meantime, however, the 47-year-old homeowner had noticed that her cell phone had disappeared from the terrace.

She confronted the man at the back of the building.

When she asked him about it several times, the 34-year-old handed her the cell phone and fled on foot.

Surveillance camera captures theft

The perpetrator's fate was that a surveillance camera in the house had recorded what he was doing.

The police called for help searched for the fugitive with several strips.

The 34-year-old could be identified based on the description and the existing video recording.

He lives in shared accommodation in Steingaden.

He was found in his room and taken into custody.

The man was drunk with just under one per mille.

Prosecutor's office refrains from arrest warrant

The stolen goods were found when his room was searched.

Since the public prosecutor's office did not apply for an arrest warrant, the police released the 34-year-old again.

As it became known afterwards, the same man had apparently also become conspicuous in the residential area on Tegelbergstrasse in Steingaden.

There he is said to have climbed over a garden gate around 3 p.m. and entered the property.

"In this regard, a report of trespassing will be filed," emphasize the officials, who are asking for further information from the population.

The man may have also attracted the attention of other residents in the residential area in a suspicious manner.

Police are asking for information

He is described as: 30 to 40 years old, dark skinned, full beard, slim and about 1.75 meters tall.

He was wearing shorts and was carrying a shoulder bag.

The Schongau Police Inspectorate requests information on 08861/23460.
