Opinion | An act at a traffic light and at the Ramban | Israel Today

In recent weeks, the movement in central Jerusalem has become hell • Why? Because instead of the organic traffic of cars and pedestrians, the sovereign decided that it was actually worthwhile to place traffic lights

You will probably forgive a Jew in distress for expropriating a public space like this esteemed pillar, in order to change a painful personal problem, what also emerges from the things it has to do with the life of the entire nation in a variety of areas.

This is a transportation business.

I have been living in the center of Jerusalem for many years, a matter that has many advantages as well as disadvantages.

We are close to everywhere, living in the oldest and most beautiful place in the world, but also dealing with the bustle of the metropolis, parking problems and demonstrations in Balfour.

This is how it is when you live in the heart of the city.

Movement too is of course not a great pleasure.

I have already mentioned the parking, and the attempts to get out of our narrow street and integrate into the main Ramban street, can take a long time, and we got used to that too, and in fact it is not so terrible and most importantly - worth the price.

And now pay attention to the following figure: In recent weeks, and even more so in recent days, traffic on the streets of central Jerusalem, during rush hour, has become a real hell.

Most of the time it is impossible to move.

The transition between the two main arteries in the Rehavia neighborhood will be a tedious project.

A traffic jam almost always creeps in, and the traffic within the latitudes, the small streets between the main arteries, has become heavy and unbearable.

What happened?

Did nothing suddenly arise in the drowsy Rehavia, or did a sudden wave of immigration attack the center of Jerusalem?

Well, not exactly.

The reason is simple: traffic lights!

Thank God and his messengers, the center of Jerusalem, which is a crowded residential neighborhood, boasted a new traffic light.

Someone there decided that there was no longer an unsupervised transportation port in the city center.

What's it here, Bangalore?

Traffic arrangements must be arranged and traffic jams in the city center put an end to.

This is how a traffic light grew at the Gaza-Arlozorov junction, and this is how a new traffic light grew at the Ussishkin-KKL-JNF junction, and this is how two huge, creepy, sweaty and annoying traffic jams grew.

I am not at all familiar with the professional reasons that led to the decision.

There may be data that I do not understand, that also need to be taken into account, and it is possible that it came to solve a safety problem at all;

I only know with absolute certainty that until a few weeks ago the traffic flowed well on all the arteries, and although it was tiring and laden with sirens and here and there even congested, it knew how to get along, organically, and run well.

A long and slightly slow axis during rush hour, a lateral axis that is integrated under the auspices of pedestrians who block the flow and balance, thus creating a natural, stable and healthy process.

Created by himself.

By itself.

And since the sovereign put his rough hand into this natural flow system and set up traffic lights for us - unbearable traffic jams and loads were born, without even a single car being added to the equation.

I will stop here, because it has just turned green and I can move on in ten meters.

Sorry.

Were we wrong?

Fixed!
