Plunge: student is seriously injured from Lake Neusiedl rescued – teacher warned

A 17-year-old Viennese was seriously injured when he jumped into the water of Lake Neusiedl.

The water was only about 90 centimeters deep.

Podersdorf - tragic end for a 17-year-old Viennese.

The accident happened during a pedal boat trip with his schoolmates.

The teenager jumped headlong into the shallow water of Lake Neusiedl on the northern beach of Podersdorf.

According to the state police in Burgenland (Austria), he should have hit his head on the bottom of the lake.

The water level in this area is around 90 centimetres.

The class teacher had previously warned his students against jumping.

But apparently the juvenile carelessness of the 17-year-old led to his fatal head.

His classmates pulled the young man out of the lake.

He was first taken care of.

A rescue helicopter then flew to the hospital with suspected spinal injuries, reports the Burgenland police.

At the moment, nothing is known about how the teenager is doing.

Again and again such tragic accidents occur at bathing lakes in the beautiful season with rising temperatures.

A 14-year-old boy, for example, did not reappear after jumping into the Amper in the Dachau district.

He had obviously disregarded the "Bathing prohibited" warning.

A 42-year-old Italian woman recently slipped on the edge of a waterfall in Switzerland and fell 50 meters.

She also ignored the warnings.

She could only be recovered dead.

To ensure that people continue to have fun while bathing, the German Life Saving Society (DLRG) advises them to follow a few essential bathing rules as a matter of urgency.

According to the rescuers, a decisive measure is that every child can swim by the end of primary school.
