Dmitry Rogozin, Director General of the Russian Roscosmos Corporation, announced that no Russian cosmonaut will be launched into space aboard the American spacecraft Starliner, even if an agreement with NASA is made on joint space flights.
And the Russia Today website quoted Rogozin as saying in a statement: "A set of technical problems were discovered in this spacecraft on its first flight, and its second flight failed. Now they are trying to repair and launch it. None of the Russian cosmonauts will sit in the seats of this vehicle because we cannot risk his life."
Rogozin explained that the US NASA initiated and proposed the idea of joint flights, as discussions began last year on the issue of an American astronaut flying on the Russian Soyuz spacecraft and a Russian astronaut on the American Dragon spacecraft last year, but the situation changed radically.
He pointed out that "some federal executive authorities in Russia are wisely studying this issue and believe that it is premature to take a decision on these joint flights on the one hand... On the other hand, we are confident in our spacecraft. As for Elon Musk's vehicles, they have many problems, including the failure of the sewage system." ...and if these problems persist, it will be difficult for us to agree to send a Russian cosmonaut on board this craft.”
