The city of Rezé will vote to create its municipal police

Eight positions have been budgeted by the town hall, while this town south of Nantes is breaking records in the number of burglaries.


The statistics of the Ministry of the Interior are surprising.

With 20.3 facts per 1000 inhabitants, Rezé was in 2020 the most robbed medium-sized city in France.

There were 848 break-ins, before a relapse to 578 in 2021, in this popular and attractive city south of Nantes, where the other crime indicators are rather temperate.

"Each burglary is one burglary too many, but the feedback we have shows an improvement,"

said Jean-Christophe Faës, deputy public tranquility officer.

What nevertheless arouse a debate in the population on the creation or not of a municipal police.

Indeed, Rezé, 42,000 inhabitants, does not have one, unlike 98% of municipalities of this size, according to the association Villes de France.

The town hall will organize in early October an advisory vote, face-to-face, to allow all its inhabitants to express themselves on the subject.
