The Finnish ambassador was summoned to the ministry on Tuesday, the statement said.

During this interview, Russian diplomacy “

strongly protested

” against the expulsion of two employees of the Russian embassy in Finland.

The ambassador has been informed that in response to the acts of the Finnish authorities the Russian side has decided to ban the stay of two members of the staff of the Finnish embassy

”, added the Russian diplomacy.

The offensive that Russia has been leading in Ukraine since February 24 has sparked a wave of international condemnation and a shower of sanctions which has been accompanied by the expulsion of hundreds of Russian diplomats by Western countries.

This announcement comes as Finland announced its "

historic

" candidacy for NATO on Sunday as a direct result of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, followed shortly after by Sweden.

On Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin warned that Moscow would react to

NATO's "

deployment of military infrastructure " in these two countries.
