White House officials announced the decision to ease sanctions on Venezuela's energy sector at the request of the country's opposition government, as it seeks to return to negotiations with the Maduro regime.
The Vice President of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, said through her Twitter account that she wants this step to initiate "the absolute lifting of the illegal sanctions that affect our people."
