For the first time in several years there is a youth advisory board in Starnberg.

112 young people cast their votes in Friday's election.

They told the Starnberger Merkur what the ten candidates with the most votes want to tackle.

Starnberg

– More leisure activities, more sporting activities, better bus connections: these issues are at the top of the agenda for the newly elected members of the Starnberg Youth Advisory Board.

On Friday, all Starnbergers between the ages of twelve and 27 were invited to cast their votes.

112 eligible voters made use of it, which made Mayor Patrick Janik "really proud".

It was a good sign that so many participated.

Now he is looking forward to working with the committee, which was constituted in the Nepomuk youth center that evening.

Spokeswoman for the youth advisory board is Ioana Marin-Iana (16), her deputy Cara Kilmey (16).

Treasurer is Francis Degenfeld-Schomburg (17).

The ten-strong youth advisory board also includes Lennart Brandt (17), Lena Frühauf (15), Karam Alhendi (13), Philipp Trabert (18), Melek Lumani (14), Michi Lech (18) and Amelie Wever (17).

Theresa Eichinger, head of the youth center, is very happy with the choice.

"It's a diverse group," she said in an interview with Starnberger Merkur.

Age, gender, family background – the mixture also stands for “different interests that can be viewed in this way”.

Her hope: "That they will be heard by the city council." The youth club sees itself as a "link and contact person" and wants to support the work of the youth advisory board, said Theresa Eichinger.

And what do young people want?

She wanted to campaign for more leisure activities, said Cara Kilmey, citing "sports fields that you can use without having to be a member of the club" as an example.

Lennart Brandt and Francis Degenfeld-Schomburg made similar statements.

"It would be cool if there were more sports activities," they said - for example, a volleyball field or basketball field near the lake, table tennis tables or soccer goals.

Amelie Wever pleaded for more and better cycle path connections.

"Cycling in Starnberg is difficult and dangerous," she said.

Turning Von-der-Tann-Straße into a bicycle street would definitely be a good idea.

Michi Lech said he wanted to make Starnberg "fresher" and suggested a kiosk on the Steininger property and a new skate park.

Bus transport also seems to be a big issue.

Both Melek Lumani and Karam Alhendi wished for better connections, especially in the evenings and in the immediate vicinity, such as to Berg.

"So that you can still get home when you've visited friends and it's been a little later."

It is important to Ioana Marina-Iana "that young people have the opportunity to develop".

She is primarily concerned with opportunities to stay, but also with part-time job opportunities or fundraisers for children and young people from financially disadvantaged families.

"There are many who don't have anything and are bullied because of it," she said.

In addition, a youth café as a second point of contact in addition to the youth club is a concern, explained the chairwoman.

Friedrich Federsel, the city council's youth officer, is already full of anticipation.

It is great that young people are committed to their homeland and want to achieve something, said the Green City Councilor, who was a member of the youth advisory board at the time between 2010 and 2014.

"I look forward to the good cooperation."
