Twelve people were killed today as a result of floods and landslides sweeping the states of Assam and Meghalaya in northeastern India.
Local media reported that the floods caused by heavy rains killed 12 people, destroyed homes and displaced more than 400,000 people.
The floods also isolated the affected areas due to the collapse of bridges and roads. Helicopters of the Indian Air Force participated in the rescue operations in Assam and Meghalaya, in addition to the suspension of railway services and the interruption of electric power lines.
The Indian authorities had announced earlier today, the evacuation of more than half a million people from their homes in the state of Assam, northeastern India, to escape massive floods caused by heavy rain.
