Italian security sources announced the rescue of 168 illegal immigrants from the Mediterranean, where they were transferred to the Sicilian island of Lampedusa.

The Italian agency, Aki, quoted the sources as saying that the disembarkation of migrants on the coast of the island of Lampedusa continues without interruption, explaining that boats carrying 168 migrants, including two small boats, were intercepted by members of the Malian police patrol about 18 nautical miles from the island's coast. One of them carried 28 people, including four women and 10 minors. The second boat was carrying 17 people, including one woman.

The sources indicated that 62 people arrived at the pier of Favaloro, who were on a small boat that was intercepted by the Malian police forces, five nautical miles off the coast of the island.

The last to reach the largest islands of the Sicilian archipelago were 61 people on a boat that reached the port of Cala Croce.
