The student cell of the terrorist organization Al-Khutla Al-Islamiya won the election in Bir Zeit • Disappointing results for Fatah, which won 18 seats

A sweeping victory for Hamas in the 2022 elections at Bir Zeit University:

At the end of the vote held today (Wednesday), Hamas' list won 28 seats compared to 18 seats to develop in the student union elections.

In the evening, the voting ended and the polls closed at Bir Zeit University.

The vote counts that Al-Qutla al-Islamiya, Hamas' student body, won the student union election today and won 28 seats in the student union after leading by a significant margin over its opponents with 5,068 votes.

Only 3379 votes were cast in the Fatah student cell and they won 18 seats.

In the last election held on campus there was a closer race between the two camps.

In the student union elections, 9,782 students from Bir Zeit University voted today, the turnout was 78%.

Five lists ran in the election this year.

The real battle was between the Al-Qutla al-Islamiya list, the Hamas student cell, and the list representing the Fatah movement.

In the middle, representatives of the left-wing parties competed: the Popular Front, the Democratic Front and other independent elements.

The election gathered a lot of interest around them.

They were preceded by an election campaign by members of the various lists.

Demonstrations of power and processions were organized inside the campus, in what became a scene of political tussle between Fatah and Hamas.

Members of Hamas' Western Wall staged a particularly aggressive campaign in which they waved the organization's green flags and chanted slogans praising Muhammad Daf, the head of the military wing.

Palestinian sources reported that Israeli security forces arrested representatives of Hamas' student cell on Tuesday.

This has led to accusations that Israel is trying to intervene and skew the election results.

Hamas condemned the arrests, saying it was a "preventive measure designed to shuffle the cards and disrupt the election."

Hamas' list has surpassed its competitors several times in the last decade and won elections on campus in Bir Zeit.

The current victory reflects the strengthening of the organization's power in the territories and in East Jerusalem, which is causing a great deal of tension in Ramallah.
